Casa Italiana Opera Company
Opera Chorus
Casa Italiana Opera Company, founded and directed by Mario Leonetti, is a professional workshop presenting four to six operas each year, fully staged with orchestra. Experienced choral singers are cordially invited to join the Casa Italiana Opera Chorus, and may audition for lead or comprimario roles.
For productions at Casa Italiana, rehearsals with chorus are normally held Monday nights from 7:30-10:00 at Casa Italiana, 1051 North Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. For events at other venues, rehearsals may be called on other evenings or on weekends at a rehearal studio at 902 North Screenland Drive in Burbank. Three rehearsals onstage with orchestra will be held during the week of the performance.
Each opera at Casa Italiana is presented on a Sunday afternoon at 4:30, preceded by a five-course dinner at 2:30. Tickets may be purchased in advance for the dinner and opera at $48, or at the door for $35 for the opera only. Proceeds benefit St. Peter’s Church.
Chorus members may memorize their parts and sing onstage, in costume, or may sing concert-style on the main floor using their music. Singers provide their own musical scores and, if onstage, their own costumes (some costume stock is available from the Company). Currently there is no compensation.
We always have opportunities for supernumeraries and volunteer production staff.
